CPSC, Bunn-O-Matic Announce Recall of Home Coffeemakers

Bunn-O-Matic Corp., of Springfield, Ill.
Hazard

The coffeemaker's plastic pour-in bowl and lid can melt or ignite due to an electrical failure, posing a burn and fire hazard to consumers.

Remedy
Consumers should unplug the coffeemaker and allow it to cool (for at least three hours) before checking to see if they have one of the recalled units. Consumers can contact the firm to obtain a free repair or purchase a new unit at a discount.
Sold at
Department and hardware stores nationwide, between February 2001 and August 2004, for about $100.

Bunn-O-Matic has received 17 reports of the bowl or lid melting, though no injuries have been reported.
