BD BACTEC Blood Culture System recalled for unauthorized access risk to product credentials
BD BACTEC blood culture systems recalled for credential compromise
Unauthorized actors accessed service credentials used by BD technical support teams to maintain certain BACTEC blood culture instruments. This could allow unauthorized access to affected devices and the patient data they contain until BD updates these credentials.
- If you operate a BD BACTEC FX, BACTEC 9240, or BACTEC FX40 system, check the serial number against the FDA notice
- Contact BD technical support immediately if your instrument's serial number is listed
- Follow BD's guidance on credential updates and security measures
Product service credentials used by some BD technical support teams to access certain BD products were accessed by an unauthorized actor. Until these product service credentials are updated, there is a risk of unauthorized access that may impact the confidentiality, integrity and/or availability of the relevant products and associated data.
