GE Healthcare Carestation anesthesia systems recalled for unexpected shutdown during power loss
Check your GE Carestation anesthesia system
GE Healthcare's Carestation anesthesia systems (600 and 700 Series) may unexpectedly shut down if AC power is lost or unplugged. When this happens, the system does not automatically switch to battery backup and will restart instead. During the restart, ventilation and anesthetic gas delivery may briefly stop, and the system will not return to previous ventilation settings after reboot.
- If you operate one of the affected Carestation models, contact GE Healthcare immediately for a power management board replacement
- Ensure continuous backup emergency power is in place at your facility
- Review your facility's power loss protocols and have manual ventilation equipment readily available
- Check the product reference numbers and GTINs against your equipment inventory
Potential unexpected shutdown of Carestation 600 and 700 Series Anesthesia Systems containing certain power management boards, if the AC mains power is unplugged or in the event of an AC mains power failure. Anesthesia systems only operate on battery power in a rare event that AC mains power is lost and there is no continuous backup emergency power. If AC power is interrupted, the system will not automatically switch over to the battery supply mode and will reboot. If this issue occurs, a temporary disruption of mechanical ventilation, manual ventilation, and volatile agent delivery may occur. Following the reboot, the system will not return to the previous ventilation settings.
