BD Pyxis automated medication dispensing cabinets recalled for drawer failure due to firmware update
Check your BD Pyxis medication cabinet
BD Pyxis automated medication dispensing cabinets used in hospitals and pharmacies received a firmware update that caused certain drawers to fail. When a drawer fails, staff may have difficulty accessing or restocking medications, which could delay patient care.
- If you operate a BD Pyxis cabinet, contact BD CareFusion immediately for a firmware fix
- Monitor affected drawers for error messages or failure to open
- Ensure backup medication access procedures are in place during any drawer outages
- Do not attempt to force a failed drawer open
Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) received a Half Height CUBIE drawer firmware update, which caused a Cubie Insert event which prompts software to generate a duplicate address, which causes an error and the drawer to fail, which may lead to inability or delay in accessing stored items, delay in the replenishment of ADCs or patient specific medications stored outside of ADCs.
