Inter-Med Aluminum Chloride Gel recalled for wrong insert

Some units of Inter-Med's Advance Aluminum Chloride Gel Clear Hemostatic Gel Kit (catalog 504600-28) contain the package insert for Ferric Sulfate Gel instead. The wrong insert gives incorrect first aid instructions—specifically, it tells users to induce vomiting if the gel is swallowed, when the correct instructions say not to induce vomiting.

  • Check your Aluminum Chloride Gel Kit (catalog 504600-28, lot 2026-0204) to see if the package insert mentions Ferric Sulfate Gel.
  • If it does, do not follow those instructions. Contact Inter-Med or your supplier for the correct insert.
  • If ingestion occurs, follow poison control guidance rather than the incorrect insert instructions.
Hazard

Some units of Aluminum Chloride Gel contain the package insert for Ferric Sulfate Gel. The incorrect insert misidentifies the product and contains different first aid instructions, most critically in that the Ferric Sulfate insert instructs users to induce vomiting in the case of ingestion, while the correct Aluminum Chloride insert instructs users not to induce vomiting.
