B. Braun Lactated Ringers recalled for particulate matter
B. Braun Medical Inc. is recalling one lot of Excel Lactated Ringers Injection (1000mL) distributed to hospitals and healthcare facilities because the solution contains small particles—primarily cellulose fibers from cotton, wood, and polystyrene. These particles could cause blood clots, vein inflammation, or organ damage if infused intravenously. No injuries have been reported so far.
- If you work at a hospital or healthcare facility and have this product (lot J4H077, expiration 30 NOV 2026), return it to your supplier immediately.
- Contact your healthcare provider if you received this IV fluid and have experienced any unusual symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, or swelling.
- Report any adverse effects to the FDA's MedWatch program at www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm or call 1-800-332-1088.
