Frozen Hypostomus fish from Brazil recalled for import violation

Throw out imported frozen Hypostomus fish

The USDA found approximately 165 pounds of frozen Hypostomus fish (also called Cascudo fish) that were illegally imported from Brazil, a country not permitted to export this type of fish to the United States. The fish were sold by weight in plastic bags at Mass. Mineirao Markets in Massachusetts. Because the fish may still be in some home freezers, the USDA is asking consumers not to eat them.

  • Do not eat this fish if you purchased it from Mass. Mineirao Markets in Massachusetts
  • Throw away any frozen Hypostomus or Cascudo fish with a production date of 23/04/2021
  • Return the product to the store where you bought it if you still have it
  • Call the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 1-888-674-6854 with questions
