Romaine lettuce harvested from the Salinas, California growing region may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, a harmful bacterium linked to illnesses. This affects whole heads, hearts, precut lettuce, salad mixes, wraps, sandwiches, and other products containing romaine from that region.
- Do not eat any romaine lettuce labeled as grown in Salinas, California
- Throw away or return unlabeled romaine lettuce if you cannot confirm it was grown indoors (hydroponically or in a greenhouse)
- Check product labels for harvest location before consuming wraps, salads, salad kits, and sandwiches containing romaine
- Contact a doctor if you develop bloody diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, or signs of dehydration within 28 days
