Stop using recalled Vortex Surgical forceps and cannula

Vortex Surgical Inc. is recalling specific lots of disposable forceps and cannula instruments used in eye surgery because the Tyvek pouches protecting them may have seal voids. A compromised sterile barrier can allow bacterial contamination, potentially leading to infection during or after surgery.

  • Check if you have any affected Vortex forceps or cannula by matching your lot number to the FDA recall notice
  • Do not use any recalled instruments; quarantine them separately
  • Contact your facility's supply chain or quality team to verify inventory
  • Report any patient infections to your healthcare provider and the FDA MedWatch program
Hazard

There may be voids located in the seal of Tyvek pouches associated with identified catalog numbers and lots. A compromised sterile barrier has potential of bioburden contamination which could lead to infection.
