American Contract Systems medical convenience kits recalled for contaminated pericare wipes
What this means
Medical convenience kits sold by American Contract Systems contain BD CliniClean Pericare Wipes that may be contaminated with lubricant from manufacturing. The contaminated wipes could cause skin irritation or increase the risk of urinary tract infection if used or if patients skip pericare because they discard the wipes.
- Check if you have a kit with model number LMCH99P or RCOH62C and a lot number matching those listed in the recall.
- Do not use the pericare wipes from the kit if you have one of the affected lot numbers.
- Contact your healthcare provider or American Contract Systems for instructions on obtaining uncontaminated wipes or replacement kits.
The agency's original wording
Kits contain manufacturer-recalled perineal care (pericare) wipes within urinary catheter trays, which may be contaminated with a lubricant used during the manufacturing process. Use of a contaminated wipe may lead to localized skin effects such as irritation, erythema, or mild inflammation. Failure to perform pericare due to disposal of contaminated wipes may increase risk of localized infection or catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI).
