BD ChloraPrep and FREPP applicators recalled for fungal contamination

BD is recalling specific lots of ChloraPrep Clear 1 mL and FREPP Clear 1.5 mL skin preparation applicators due to potential fungal contamination (Aspergillus penicillioides) that could grow under certain environmental conditions. The affected products were distributed to hospitals and medical distributors between March and June 2024.

  • If you received or use these products in a medical facility, stop using them immediately and destroy all affected units per your facility's process.
  • Check the lot and catalog numbers on the product packaging against the recall notice to confirm whether your stock is affected.
  • Contact BD at 1-844-823-5433 (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. CT) or productcomplaints@bd.com for replacement products if you purchased directly from BD.
  • Report any adverse events to FDA MedWatch at 1-800-FDA-1088 or online at fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm.
