Waymo autonomous driving system recalled for construction zone risk
Waymo's 5th Generation Automated Driving System software may allow vehicles to enter closed freeway construction zones and continue driving at speed. This increases the risk of a crash. Waymo has temporarily restricted freeway driving on affected vehicles while developing a permanent software fix.
- If your vehicle uses Waymo's 5th Generation ADS, expect limited freeway operation until the software update is released.

Hazard
Driving through a closed construction zone increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
The remedy is currently under development. In the interim, Waymo modified the scope of vehicle operations to restrict freeway driving. Waymo will update the ADS software to detect when the vehicle is in and to avoid entering construction zones, free of charge.
