BMW X3 2024–2026 recalled for incorrectly attached steering spindle

Certain 2024–2026 BMW X3 models may have an incorrectly attached steering spindle. This can cause a loss of steering control and increase the risk of a crash.
- Check your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on NHTSA.gov starting October 2, 2026, to see if your vehicle is affected.
- If affected, contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 to schedule a free inspection and repair.
- Dealers will inspect the steering connection and replace hardware or the spindle and column as needed.

An incorrectly attached steering spindle can lead to a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the steering connection and replace hardware or replace the spindle and column, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 2, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning October 2, 2026.
