Volvo Trucks 2025–2027 VNL and VNR recalled for software braking calculation error
What this means
Certain 2025–2027 Volvo VNL and VNR trucks with tanker packages have a software error that calculates axle weight incorrectly. This can reduce braking performance when towing smoothbore tanker trailers, requiring longer stopping distances and increasing crash risk.
- Check if your vehicle is affected by searching its VIN on NHTSA.gov (searchable as of October 5, 2026).
- Wait for a notification letter from Volvo Trucks (mailing expected November 27, 2026).
- Contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 800-528-6586 to schedule a free software update at a dealer.
- Do not operate the vehicle with a tanker trailer until the software fix is installed.
The agency's original wording
Reduced braking performance can require a greater distance to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will install new software to disable the dynamic trailer braking calculations, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 27, 2026. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2610. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 5, 2026.
