Volkswagen ID.4 2023–2026 recalled for high-voltage battery fire risk
What this means
The high-voltage battery in certain 2023–2026 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles may fail, creating a risk of vehicle fire and injury. Volkswagen is developing a repair and has advised owners to charge only to 80% capacity until the fix is available.
- Charge your ID.4 to a maximum of 80% battery capacity until the repair is complete.
- Watch for an interim notice in the mail (expected November 27, 2026) about the safety issue.
- Check your VIN on NHTSA.gov to confirm if your vehicle is affected.
- Contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298 (recall 93EX) when the remedy becomes available.

A vehicle fire increases the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to only charge their vehicles to a maximum of 80% battery capacity until the repair has been completed. The remedy is currently under development. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed November 27, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Volkswagen's number for this recall is 93EX. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on October 6, 2026.
