Ford Explorer, Bronco, Mustang, Ranger recalled for defective pistons risking engine failure
What this means
Certain 2026 Ford Explorer, Bronco, Bronco Sport, Mustang, and Ranger vehicles have engine pistons that may have been manufactured incorrectly. This defect can cause the pistons to fail, resulting in a sudden loss of engine power while driving, which increases the risk of a crash.
- Check your vehicle's identification number (VIN) on NHTSA.gov to see if it's affected.
- Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 if your vehicle is recalled.
- Do not drive the vehicle until the remedy is completed.
- Wait for Ford's letter in December 2026 when the repair becomes available; dealers will replace the engine free of charge.
