Ford F-150 recalled for incorrect rear axle tail bearing causing wheel lock-up risk
What this means
Certain 2026 Ford F-150 vehicles were built with an incorrect rear axle tail bearing. This defect can cause the rear wheels to lock up, making the vehicle hard to control, or cause the driveshaft to separate, resulting in loss of power or the vehicle rolling away if parked without the parking brake.
- Check if your 2026 F-150 is affected by searching your VIN on NHTSA.gov starting September 14, 2026.
- If your vehicle is affected and you haven't received a recall letter, contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332.
- Schedule an appointment with a Ford dealer to replace the rear axle tail bearing at no charge.
The agency's original wording
Rear wheel lock-up can result in a loss of vehicle control. Driveshaft separation can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle rollaway if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied. Either of these situations can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
Dealers will replace the rear axle tail bearing, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed September 21, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S63. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning September 14, 2026.
