Ford F-150 trailer brake and lighting accessory kits recalled for communication loss
What this means
Certain Ford integrated trailer module (ITRM) accessory kits for 2021–2026 F-150 vehicles may lose communication with the truck, causing the trailer's brakes, turn signals, and brake lights to stop working. This reduces brake control and visibility, increasing crash risk.
- Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or reference recall 26C35.
- Bring your F-150 to a Ford dealer for a free software update to the ITRM.
- Do not use the trailer with brakes or lights until the update is complete.
The agency's original wording
A loss of trailer brakes or lights can reduce the driver’s ability to control the trailer and decrease the trailers visibility to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the ITRM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 28, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26C35.
