Medtronic MiniMed 670G insulin pump loaner units recalled for damage risk and insulin delivery failure
What this means
Seven loaner MiniMed 670G insulin pumps were cleaned with chemically incompatible products that may have damaged the pump casing or keypad. This damage could allow moisture inside the pump and cause it to deliver incorrect insulin doses — either too much or too little — which can lead to serious blood sugar swings.
- If you are using a loaner MiniMed 670G pump (model MMT-1781 or MMT-1782), contact Medtronic immediately for a replacement or instructions.
- Check the serial number on your pump against the list provided by Medtronic to see if yours is affected.
- Do not return a loaner pump to Medtronic without first consulting them about the cleaning issue.
The agency's original wording
Loaner insulin pumps may have been cleaned with chemically incompatible products that could damage the pump case or keypad, allow moisture ingress, and result in insulin over- or under-delivery, potentially causing hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, or diabetic ketoacidosis.
